6,000 Per Hour
It’s
amazing, but worldwide
moer than 6,000 people die every hour.
24
hours a day, 7 days a week.
What
have you done in the last hour?
In
that time,
more than 6,000 people have gone to meet their maker.
Most of them unprepared for what lies ahead of them.
I
find that we have absolutely no idea how many
6,000 is.
Try
to find
6,000 of something.
Rocks if you can. Rice if you
can’t.
It’s
a lot.
And
that many people die every hour.
If
you can’t find anything to count, download this little
windows application and click
start.
(sorry, it only works on Windows)
It
will show you how fast people are dying.
As
you run it, think about where they are going.
Not
just dot’s.
Someone’s grandmother. Someone’s daughter. Someone’s father.
Gone.
Where?
Generous
estimates would put the figure around 25% of people who call themselves
Christian.
Around
10% of people worldwide attend Christian church regularly.
But possibly only 5% really have a relationship with God through Jesus
the Christ.
Get
your pile of
6,000 things and just sit and pray with them for a while.
Or
start the application and watch the count going up and pray while it does.
Think
about 5% of those…
Think
about the other 95%...
What
are you going to do about it?
What
can you do?
You
can never keep up with
6,000 an hour.
Even
Billy Graham couldn’t have done that.
This
is a well known story.
A
man was walking on a beach after a tremendous storm.
The
beach was absolutely covered with starfish which had been washed up in the
storm.
But
now they were rapidly drying out in the sun. There were thousands upon
thousands of them.
The
man saw a boy picking up starfish, one by one, and throwing them back into the
ocean.
He
said to the boy, “why are you wasting your time like that, there are so many,
you can’t save them all”.
The
boy just smiled, bent down, picked up a starfish and threw it back into the
ocean.
“No,
he said, but I made a difference to that one.”
It
can be overwhelming to think that so many people are dying and not going to
Heaven.
But
you could pick one. You could make a difference to that one.
Maybe
your whole life you will only make a difference to one person.
So what. That’s better than not making a
difference to anyone.
And
you have no idea how God will use that one person.
